3rd Compass to Europe's Innovative Chemical Companies - www.chemistry-compass.eu

Since BCNP Consultants started the project in 2014 the numbers of companies in the Chemistry Compass are continuously growing. The European innovative landscape in Chemistry has a great potential and many innovative companies are founded every year. The goal of the Chemistry Compass is to find and locate all innovative companies in Europe, which contribute to the chemical value chain. This year's 3rd Compass could raise the number of small and medium innovative enterprises up to a total number of 515, which is an increase of 114 % compared to the year before. With their products and services they all affect the chemical sector and its user industries. The variety of countries, in which the innovative companies are located, could also be increased by seven more countries. The new countries are Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Estonia, Iceland, Lithuania and Turkey, summing up the total number of countries to 29. Also in the 3rd Compass Israel is considered to be a part of Europe. With 9 innovative companies the innovative landscape of this year's Chemical Compass is more than twice as big as before. The higher number of innovative companies also proves that the financial support of high-tech growth companies in Israel works out quite well. That is why the research in this particular region will continue with the perspective of another increase in numbers for the next edition.

Holger Bengs, editor and author, studied chemistry and business administration. He worked for several years in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry before starting his own consultancy, BCNP Consultants, with headquarters in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. According to his background in polymer chemistry he got responsibility as a project manager for producing starch polymers by biocatalysis and furthermore to find new applications for these well defined biopolymers. He learned quickly that a project manager needs aside his own expertise experts from different fields, i.e. genetic engineering, fermentation, micro biology, marketing, economy. Scientific interdisciplinarity and interdisciplinarity beyond natural sciences are a key success factors to develop new products and to bring them successfully to the market. This story holds also true in the consulting practice of BCNP standing for biotech, chemistry, nanotech, pharma. The serie of Compasses to Europe´s Innovative Chemical Companies was motivated by the observation that quite often one speaks about company founding and entrepreneurship in the context of biotechnology and nanotechnoloy, but not about innovative chemical companies; even if chemical substances and processes are in the focus of the technology considered: This compass aims at bringing all interested parties to the table. Co-author is Dr. Georg F.L. Wießmeier, Chief Technology and Innovation Officer of Sibelco Group, Belgium, and presidium member of the German Chemical Society. The two-page portraits have been written by authors of the corresponding organizations. Wießmeier, Chief Technology and Innovation Officer of Sibelco Group, Belgium, und Präsidiumsmitglied der Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker.
